Manaus
The building is open for visitors when there is no performance going on. They do charge. I was there on my last day, so I did not spend time to go in. |
The theater and most of the other ornate old buildings came into being during the Belle Époque at a time when fortunes were made in the rubber boom. Above, the palace of justice. |
The theatre square is fronted by old and restored or very new buildings |
For me, another rainy departure that would take me to Belem and finally out of Brazil |
The airport bus came and picked me up to deposit me at the airport. I decided to cut my hotel stay short by a night, since I had a very early flight and it was simply not worth it, delightful as the breakfast buffet at the hotel was. One of the best of the trip. So I slept at the airport until it was time to depart. Not comfortable, but practical. Speaking of practical. When it started to rain, people like this young man, were out there between the cars with wiper blades, to earn a little cash. No opportunity is wasted. |
This time the driver gave me a view of the front entrance of the new soccer arena |
